The pay-offs are having an impact.

Rep. Bart Gordon of Tennessee, a moderate Democrat who is retiring at the end of the year, announced he will vote in favor of the bill after opposing an earlier version. He did so as Democratic leaders included in their revisions a provision worth an estimated $99 million over two years in higher Medicaid payments to Tennessee hospitals that treat large numbers of uninsured. – azcentral/AP

Congressman Gordon is retiring this year, and although he is seeking cover under the altruistic reasons of getting $99 million in extra money for Tennessee, the real reason is that he took a bribe.

Rep. Bart Gordon (D-Tenn.) who announced his retirement from Congress has been promised the job of NASA administrator in exchange for his vote – Human Events

John Tanner, another retiring Tennessee Congressman who’s office claims that he has not made a decision yet, but voted against the legislation twice, is also rumored to be considering a bribe.

Rep. John Tanner (D-Tenn.), another retiring Democrat, has been promised an appointment as U.S. Ambassador to NATO in exchange for his vote.

With nothing to lose, it looks like Tanner is just holding out to increase his own personal take from the deal. Well Mr. Tanner, if you do sell your soul, then you had better stay in Europe. Benedict Arnold could not come home after he betrayed his country, so neither should you.
