The Bill #tcot #teaparty #iamthemob

I’m not going to get into the debate over whether or not abortion is covered in “The Bill”. I am not going to get into a debate whether or not “The Bill” leads to socialized medicine or not (although clearly it does). To me, all of that debate is serious enough, but here is the biggee.

NOTIFICATION OF NONENROLLMENT.—Not later than June 30 of each year, the Secretary of the Treasury, acting through the Internal Revenue Service and in consultation with the Secretary of Health and Human Services, shall send a notification to each individual who files an individual income tax return and who is not enrolled in minimum essential coverage (as defined in section 5000A of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986). Such notification shall contain information on the services available through the Exchange operating in the State in which such individual resides. – Senate Bill, page 341, 342

Yes, I am currently reading the some 5,000 pages of the combined Senate/House monster. I don’t pretend to understand all of the legal terminology, but this much is becoming obvious. The Internal Revenue Service is responsible to insure that YOU have insurance which meets the guidelines set forth by the government, either through an individual, employer, or government provider. If you don’t satisfy their requirements, then you will be fined ~2% of your gross income. Private business will also be subject to fines if they do not offer such coverage for you.

If you thought your tax returns were complicated now, just wait until this goes into effect. Please, take the time to at least read the parts where the IRS gets complete control over your health. I won’t go into the regulations being put on the types of foods and labeling restaurants and the food industry is getting hit with. Just know that the same Treasury Secretary that failed to pay $35,000 in income taxes and was fined $15,000 by the same agency he now heads will be dictating your health care coverage.

If this trash passes into law then it is over folks. Time does not permit for me to address the inflation, unemployment and economic ramifications of this thing. I’ll leave that to others.

‘And remember that it is for ever. The face will always be there to be stamped upon. The heretic, the enemy of society, will always be there, so that he can be defeated and humiliated over again. Everything that you have undergone since you have been in our hands — all that will continue, and worse. The espionage, the betrayals, the arrests, the tortures, the executions, the disappearances will never cease. It will be a world of terror as much as a world of triumph. The more the Party is powerful, the less it will be tolerant: the weaker the opposition, the tighter the despotism. Goldstein and his heresies will live for ever. Every day, at every moment, they will be defeated, discredited, ridiculed, spat upon and yet they will always survive. This drama that I have played out with you during seven years will be played out over and over again generation after generation, always in subtler forms. Always we shall have the heretic here at our mercy, screaming with pain, broken up, contemptible — and in the end utterly penitent, saved from himself, crawling to our feet of his own accord. That is the world that we are preparing, Winston. A world of victory after victory, triumph after triumph after triumph: an endless pressing, pressing, pressing upon the nerve of power. You are beginning, I can see, to realize what that world will be like. But in the end you will do more than understand it. You will accept it, welcome it, become part of it.’ – 1984

Back when I was in high school, George Orwell’s 1984 was required reading. Little did I know that in 2010 I would be living it.

You might need to skim back over 1984. I’m not sure where you’re getting confused over this, but, when George Orwell wrote about those “arrests,” “tortures,” and “executions,” he actually wasn’t talking about Tim Geithner sending people mail. Just saying.

To try and say the same thing a little less sarcastically: You seem convinced that the world is basically going to end if this thing passes. Everyone’s health care will be yanked into the grasp of the evil bureaucracy, democracy will collapse, and, before you know it, the Secretary of the Treasury will be at your front door, ready to waterboard you for Googling “tea party.” And I suppose that there had to be some train of thought that led you to this conclusion.

What I’m wondering, though, is at what point you’d start to think, “Eh, maybe I was wrong, this wasn’t such a big deal.” Supposing that the bill passes on Sunday, how many months will have to go by before you’re ready to say – or at least to admit the possibility that – the stuff you were afraid of was just silly? What would have to happen, what would you have to see, to make you doubt that health care reform isn’t the first step towards Obama slapping Big Brother posters up on every corner?

No Allen, you are the one who needs to read the book again and let the “Big Brother” theme sink in a little more.

Yes Allen, it is as bad as I believe it to be. And no Allen, this is not a fight that will end on Sunday.
