I’m not going to do a lengthy critique of McCain’s speech. He said a few things I like and he is certainly a great man qualified to lead this Nation. However, it was what he did not say that has left me in a deep depression regarding the future of this country.

For those who have lost heart due to the mass exodus of industry from America to overseas, McCain essentially said that it is gone and is not coming back, part of the global economy. I guess I am alone in understanding that without that industrial base, we will not be able to meet the threat of war with Russia in Europe as we did with Germany and Japan during WWII. I also heard nothing about how we are going to secure our borders and stop the influx of illegal immigrants into this country.

I guess the only hope I took from his remarks was that he does get it in regards to the energy situation. If he is serious, then our Nation can not only secure its energy independence, but become an energy exporter. Further, energy could become an “industry” which takes up the slack left by the exodus of American industry. However, I don’t see much promise because someone will decide that energy is part of the global economy and some other country can handle it better.

McCain talked a lot about how he has sacrificed in fighting corruption and serving this Nation politically. I guess he thinks we are stupid when he says that being President is not a self-serving ambition. McCain has wanted the Presidency so bad over the past decade he could hardly contain himself. No, true political sacrifice can be found in my childhood political hero from Tennessee, Davy Crockett. He went to Washington and fought the greed and corruption he found along the way. His political enemies eventually won out and he came home to Tennessee just as poor as when he had left (sure can’t say that today). However, his political enemies still pursued him until he finally told them, “ya’ll go to hell, I’m going to Texas!” I guess everyone knows how that story ended at the Alamo.

I want to be excited, but McCain failed to deliver. Instead, all I got was how great he is and how Washington has sold us off to the highest bidder and we need to get used to it. That is paraphrasing of course, and often what we hear is not what was said.

JERUSALEM – GOP Sen. John McCain is “absentminded” and “terrible” and his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, doesn’t have any appropriate experience.

Sen. Barack Obama, by contrast, is “highly educated” and “eloquent” and would serve the world much better and improve America’s overall situation.

And Sen. Joe Biden is a “very respectable” man with a “good reputation.”

All this according to an interview broadcast this week on Iranian state-run media

How does the old saying go? Bend over sucker, here it comes!
