Southern Solutions – thoughts on the presidental campaign

My friend Mr. Armstrong speaks again.

We’ve often noted that sanity, like mortality is a temporary condition. We go crazy in mass and regain our senses one by one in a gradual process rather than a single event. Whenever we watched the old news reels of Adolph Hitler or other such tyrants, it was always a wonder how the masses could be cheering like they were. It wasn’t completely staged as many of them actually believed what he was saying. Today, political rallies are staged for the same effect and look very similar. What condition would cause a fifty-five year old, otherwise sane woman to spend hours jumping up and down with a placard that says little if anything noteworthy?

After watching the Democrats in Denver, an epiphany of sorts for thousands and then the flip-of-the-switch Machiavellian suspense generated by the media over McCain’s vice presidential pick, its more apparent than ever that the political puppeteers have this nation at their fingertips.

McCain’s pick reminded me of the “perfect country song” heard recently on the radio. Naturally, it mentioned momma, rain, drinking, a dog, a pickup truck, getting out of prison and all other aspects of a working man’s life. McCain’s pick was equally impressive as he out-Obama’ed Obama with a young woman, union-member, pro-lifer, working class background, mother of five including a handicapped infant and a young soldier soon to deploy to Iraq, State Governor, reformer and commander-in-chief of the Alaskan National Guard with a husband of twenty years who works as a commercial fisherman and oil field worker. If McCain missed any bases on his trip around the infield, it wasn’t obvious. Joe Biden will not have an easy time debating this one. And, the show goes on …and on …and on.

With the pageant-like selection process finally over, it is hoped that sanity can begin to return to the Republic. Just how many people will have regained their political balance before the November election is the question of the day.

Are the media a part of this mass hypnosis or can that many people be that stupid “on cue”? If Congress is the key, why no mention of it on any news show ? With Congress getting a lower public approval rating than even King George, why are there no panel show pundits examining various candidates for Congress ?

Outside of a small setting, there is no such thing as a monarchy. Every monarch, general or dictator must have his inner circle in order to govern. An “Inner Circle” has dominated and controlled the US government for far too many years and this year’s election results will not affect this group in the least.

What can make a significant change is a complete overhaul of Congress. If Congress were on track, it would not matter who the president is. He/she would simply be the administrator that they were elected to be.

Our legislative process ( federal, state and local) has been corrupted to a point that a handful of officials actually run the entire process. Under the influence of special interest groups, they decide what flies and what stays on the ground. Anyone looking for a democratic process must look elsewhere.

As long as the majority of us believe that it is the responsibility of government to provide them with what they need and much of what they want, we will continue down the path of national decline (devolution).

Now, how do we usher in a return to our national consciousness and sanity while we still have a Republic? Telling the truth, on a an individual basis hasn’t worked. The lie gets more coverage, and if repeated often enough, becomes the truth. A great leader, riding a white horse, cannot materialize because the system in place will destroy him/her before they have made any progress.

Simply put, we must reach a point where we spend more time using knee-mail than we spend using e-mail. For each of us, this choice may vary and there are many methods for promoting its use. The election of either John McCain or Barack Obama  just might turn out to be that altar call that this nation needs. Our national version of an Armageddon, if you will. On this level, Mr. Obama’s radical socialists should be a greater incentive than the hold- the-line fascists in Mr. McCain’s crowd.

In the meantime, Congress is still the key and your congressman is most likely a major part of the problem. It wouldn’t hurt to put his/her feet to the fire.

They never see the light but they will feel the heat when it is applied by enough people.

Southern Solutions: A de-centralized government at all levels. The re-assertion of sovereignty both for the states and the individual citizens. Tackling perceived problems at the lowest level rather than at the highest. Avoiding protocols calling for excessive consolidation, diversity or multi-culturalism while strengthening the family and preserving the individual agency of everyone. …. Hope springs eternal and truth does eventually prevail when enough pain is taken to bring it to light.
