ATLANTA (AP) – Health officials now estimate that swine flu has sickened nearly 50 million Americans and killed nearly 10,000.
The new estimates mean about 1 in 6 Americans have had the illness. The figures were released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday. – Breitbart
I heard about this report yesterday. Since then, I figured it would be easy to find someone who has had it. I have not talked to anyone who has either had Hamthrax or who knows anyone who has had it. Someone is making this crap up as they go.
That’s kind of a horrible way to assess the truth or falsehood of statistical claims. Possibly, you live in a place where the flu hasn’t spread as rapidly or hasn’t hit badly at all. Possibly, you just talk to the wrong people.
(Given that the place I go to school at got hit with the flu early, I can tell you that I know a lot of people who had it.)
Well, that is nice Warren. But I would think in the hundreds of people I know and the people who know them, if the 1 in 6 are getting it, someone would know some one. And one of those folks is a nurse.

(And by the way, statistical processes are my career field, this ain’t the best way, but I sure can tell it ain’t 1 in 6)
I can tell you that I have been going to the VA about 2-3 times a month, I ask the nurses and doctors if they have seen any cases of the Swine Flu, the answer is always NO.
1 case that was confirmed. No others.
Went to the VA today, asked a nurse about HAMTHRAX, nope knew of no cases plus she didn’t intend to get the vaccine either. I mentioned the 1 out of 6 statistic and she agreed there is something wrong with the CDC math.
