I am sure that by now everyone has heard that on September 8th, the One will be addressing a captive audience of school-children across the country. Local school Districts have the option to ‘opt out’ and not participate in the event, and some local districts have come under parental pressure to do just that. Some parents have said that they would like the option to keep their children home on that day, but some school districts have taken a strong opposition to that suggestion. Here in Memphis, City Councilman Harold Collin’s remarked on his Facebook page this evening,
If you keep your child at home because of the President’s speech, your child should be considered truant and punishable by the law.
Unfortunately, some do not understand why parents might be concerned about the One’s intrusion into their children’s classroom.
Seriously, what in the hell is wrong with these people?
Well, let me try to answer that. This video is still fresh in our minds from the 2008 election cycle.
Since assuming power in Washington, the One and his minions have set up an extra-constitutional framework of socialist/marxist czars, socialized banking and some industries, and is now moving to take over the energy industry and health care. For those of us who know history, this move towards our children is even more frightening. The early lesson plans asked children what they could do to help “Obama”. That has been changed now, but none-the-less is very revealing in regards to the end-game.
He is losing in the public arena among grown-ups.
So now he is going after our kids. Now why would anyone get upset about a socialist/marxist going after the hearts and minds of their children?

Some of think sending our kids to Government schools may be considered child abuse.
At some point in the future I genuinely hope you look back on this and realize how unreasonably fear filled you were. I know there’s nothing I can say now to convince you otherwise, but I pray that you’ll figure it out eventually.
Nothing unreasonable about it at all Justin. The man’s history thus far, his statements, his actions…pick up a history book and do a little reading. Nothing new under the sun.
That’s some scarey stuff right there.
I think you’ve mischaracterized the folks at donklephant. IMO, the folks who discussed this issue both understand and appreciate why parents are concerned.
As others there have pointed out, it is certainly not out of the ordinary for students to be exposed to our country’s President and what he has to say. In fact it’s the rule, not the exception. What concerns me is what seems to be a special new level of paranoia regarding our current President.
This speech strikes me as a routine, unobjectionable positive thing, a simple modeling of the civic virtue of being interested in the affairs of your government. The fact that students are also being encouraged to critically analyze the speech is ample evidence of this. A little practice on civic virtue and critical thinking, and nothing more.
I see nothing nefarious at all about this speech, just as I saw nothing nefarious about President Bush reading a story to elementary school students, an episode which almost certainly was scheduled to include a little bit of question and answer.
I have nothing but respect for those Americans who genuinely believe that President Obama is trying to take America in the wrong direction and so are opposing his policies. I wish all of you luck, because that’s democracy, and the more that Americans of all views participate, the more closely the results match what America as a whole wants.
I strongly suspect that you are uninterested in my advice. But I am compelled to suggest the following to all those who oppose Obama and his policies:
Going to defcon 5 over every single action that can be conceived as a negative is a poor tactic.
Especially if you wish to be taken seriously by the sensible moderate Americans that you’ll need on your side if you wish to prevent the kinds of changes Obama seeks. Now, if all you want to do is continually indulge in the venting of the anger and astonishment you feel that the rest of the country elected Obama as President, by all means stay the course.
We are not moderates.
Your article is very helpful to me.Thanks a lot.
