Obedient Tanner follows Pelosi’s lead; votes yes on bill that could provide funds to bailout European banks and support rogue nations

(Brighton, TN) Yesterday, Rep. John Tanner (D-TN) finally reached a decision and, not surprisingly, bowed to Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) wishes and supported H.R. 2346, the 2009 Supplemental Appropriations Bill. Like other Blue Dog Democrats who position themselves as moderate, earlier in the day Tanner had indicated he was undecided on the bill, which Republicans have opposed because it funnels billions of taxpayer dollars to interests outside the United States.

While the bill is supposed to provide funding for ongoing efforts including Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Pandemic Flu, the Obama White House added $5 billion in cash, as well as a $100 billion line of credit for the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The IMF provides money to bail out European banks and also has provided money to a number of third world governments, including the hostile regimes in Iran and Venezuela.

“Once again, John Tanner has failed to represent the hard-working people of West Tennessee and has taken his marching orders from San Francisco liberal Nancy Pelosi,” said Donn Janes, Republican candidate for the 8th Congressional District. “He voted yesterday to send our tax dollars overseas to an organization that could use it bail out foreign banks, or to help prop up an Iranian regime that insists on violating United Nations Security Council Resolutions concerning its nuclear program, not to mention the brutal suppression of its own people protesting this week’s elections in that country.”

Janes continued, “As he done in the past, Congressman Tanner will defend his actions by claiming he is helping average Tennesseans…even the most casual observer knows better.”

Donn Janes is a Republican candidate for United States House of Representatives for Tennessee’s 8th Congressional District. A Navy veteran and businessman, Janes is an outspoken critic of how Republicans and Democrats have both continued to ignore any calls for fiscal responsibility and plunge the United States deeper into debt. – Donn James, Candidate TN 8th Congressional District.
