I have waited a few days before commenting on recent events while I sorted out my thoughts. I guess one of the bad things about being older is that history is still vivid in a person’s memory. I recall as a youth watching all of the documentaries about WWII Nazi Germany and how Hitler nationalized the heavy industry to save Germany from an economic depression. I recall the Cold War and how we fought so aggressively against the Soviet Union and its socialism. How Ronald Reagan fired up the engines of capitalism and destroyed the old USSR because the Soviet nationalized industry simply could not keep up and ultimately collapsed. Is it that long ago that the USSR broke up and Russia embraced capitalism? Was it not just a few years ago as we all reacted in horror as Hugo Chavez began to nationalize the news and oil industries of Venezuela?

Now I have lived to see the day when the President of the United States is moving to take over not only financial institutions, but industry as well. Since when can the President fire a CEO? Am I asleep and having a nightmare about America giving up its Constitution in favor of a Dictator? Now he is going to determine what companies pay? Not one of the SOB’s behind this have one lick of experience in running a business.
Folks, this is scary shit that I never thought I would live to see. There may be nothing left by 2010 to save.
