Don’t Mess With Texas

There is trouble brewing down in Texas, a revolution of sorts which I will be watching closely. Texas Representative Wayne Christian says Texas has three options:

One is Revolution;
Two is Insurrection; and
Three is Self-Rule – with Self-Rule being working within the system, participating in the Politics, opposing wrongs and standing for the right principles.

I know everyone hopes that the third option is the one that proves fruitful, but even Texas Governor Rick Perry has weighed in, rejecting the Stimulus package as a violation of the State’s sovereignty.

“Again and again, we hear the purpose of the federal stimulus legislation is to create jobs, but this portion will actually slow job creation,” Perry said. “If Washington really wanted to help, wanted to respect our rights as a state, they would send money to the unemployment account with no strings attached just like they did in 2002.”

Mickey will be happy to know that Congressman Ron Paul has joined Governor Perry and his fellow Texans in the movement.

I personally wouldn’t take it. I don’t think it’s a good idea because the obligation is always so much greater than it would be if you didn’t have to take it. Money should come back to us but it should come back to us through reduction of taxes. It’s sort of like talking about the highway fund; should we take our highway funds back? They take highway funds from us and they gave it to Washington and then they dimmy them up and I say yeah we ought to get some of our highway funds back. But the better program would be never take the money, all the highway taxes stay in Texas and let us take care of our own highways, that’s what we should do… I admire people that take that position and soon it won’t matter because the Federal government is broke and the dollar’s not going to be buying much anymore so it’d be better that the states concentrate on how they’re going to manage their affairs when the Federal government is totally bankrupt.

And should push-come-to-shove, count Chuck Norris in…

I’m not saying that other states won’t muster the gumption to stand and secede, but Texas has the history to prove it. As most know, Texas was its own country before it joined the Union as its 28th state. From 1836 to 1846, Texas was its own Republic. Washington-on-the-Brazos (river) served as our Philadelphia, Pa. It was there, on March 2, 1836, where a band of patriots forged the Texas Declaration of Independence.

In the estimation of Thomas Jefferson, “When patience has begotten false estimates of its motives, when wrongs are pressed because it is believed they will be borne, resistance becomes morality.” My own feelings on the subject is that I hope that political leaders will pay close attention. There is a reason why patriots across the Nation are rallying to form local “tea party” efforts. There is a reason why such talk of secession is once again being bantered not only in the backrooms, but now openly in the pubic forum. I for one hope they heed the messages being sent. However, it would not be the first time a Tennessean ran off to Texas for the cause of Liberty.

Remember the Alamo….

    I’m really hoping that the folks in Tennessee will learn from the independent minded in Texas. Honestly, I’m thinking it past time for the South to Rise Again!
