My military contract with the US Government allows me to have these benefits. I earned them and paid for them in more ways than just one. Even though I am proud of the treatment I get, occasionally I feel like one of the herd, not a person. It does take longer to get in and see the doctor for an appointment, therefore I am told to go to the emergency room. In the private sector I can see an abuse and rise in cost in Govt run healthcare. The VA stretches their dollars to meet their budgets. Most of the doctors I see are UT medical students doing their internships/residencies. I would rather choose the doctors I see, but at the VA you get whoever is there the day of your appointment. I am proactive and always research the care that I get just to be sure I am getting proper treatment, but I did that with civilian doctors also. So think long and hard about the healthcare liberties you want to give up to the Govt. I receive 100% VA medical benefits. First five years, we pay the tax on it and get nothing. The next five, we eat that all up and then some. After the 10 years, our children get stuck with one more money sink to pay for. I don't want the government taking my money to pay someone else's doctor bills. I have a hard enough time paying my own. That is a cost estimate over 10 years. Since we seem to have launched a slightly smaller distance off the deep-end over here, I'll pose a question: The CBO's most recent estimate of the House health care bill, H.R. 3962, concludes that it will reduce the federal deficit by over $100 billion over ten years. It also concludes that the bill would reduce the number of uninsured Americans by 36 million, leaving only about 4% of the nation uninsured. What about extending health insurance to millions of Americans while reducing the federal deficit do you take to constitute the "enslavement" of America? Or, if you deny that the CBO's estimates are accurate, what, specifically, about its methods and logic do you disagree with? How do you know that those parts of its estimation process are wrong?
